Adding the 16'565 metal silos manufactured in 2008, a total of 226'281 silos have been produced since the beginning of the POSTCOSECHA program in Guatemala. An estimated 85 percent of the 70'000 traditional silos that existed before, have been substituted by POSTCOSECHA silos. At rural level 242'412 tons of maize are stored appropriately with an equivalent value of 506'640'501 quetzales (63'796'576 USD) at an average market price. Postharvestlosses of grain have been reduced by 36'361 tons with an equivalent value of 75'996'076 quetzales (9'569'486 USD) at an average market price.

Honduras has been the first countrywhrere thePOSTCOSECHA strategy was developed as an aid sponsered rural development approach in the 1980s.In the following 25 years, between 1983 and 2008, a total of 206'374 metal silos with a total storage capacity of 140'710 tons have been produced benefiting over 200'000 families. In 2008 postharvest losses have been reduced by 14'071 tons due to the POSTCOSECHA technology.

68'977 metal silos have been produced in Nicaragua between 1992 and 2003. Adding the 13'500 silos manufactured after 2003 until 2009, a total of 82'477 metal silos with a storage capacity of 818 kg each have been produced. This yields a total ofmore than 67'000 tons of stored grain assuring the alimentation of almost have a million individuals. Postharvest losses have been reduced by 6'754 tons of basic grain due to the use of metal silos instead of other storage technologies.

In 2008 more than 3'000 farmers and 30 tinsmiths have been trained on the POSTCOSECHA technology. And 14'200 rural families have been benefited by the transfer of metal silos. Between 1993 and 2009 a total of 65'342 metal silos with a total storage capacity of 53'610 tonshave been manufactured in El Salvador. In 2009 another 10'690 metal silos are planned to be transferred.
